ABOUT INDIGENOUS MEMORIES

Indigenous Memories is a United States tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to bring attention to the lives of Indigenous people, enslaved individuals, and Free People of Color who lived and labored along the Historic Indian Trading Path in Orange County, North Carolina.

Through the stewardship of Indigenous burial mounds, Black cemeteries, and the Hardscrabble Slave Cemetery, along with immersive historical hikes and storytelling experiences, Indigenous Memories works to document, educate, and honor communities whose stories have long been excluded from the historical record.

A Creative Partnership Rooted in Shared Values

Blue Ridge Collaborative has partnered closely with Indigenous Memories to translate this vital work into accessible, lasting creative platforms.

Our collaboration includes brand development, website design and maintenance, and strategic production of large-scale storytelling projects, most notably the Common Ground in Orange County timeline. Funded through America 250, this digital timeline combines scholarship, video, archival materials, and community voices to explore the intertwined histories of Indigenous and enslaved people in the Carolina Piedmont.

The success of this project helped inspire the launch of Blue Ridge Collaborative and continues to serve as a model for how thoughtful storytelling can deepen public understanding of the past.

SACRED LAND PRESS

Blue Ridge Collaborative also partnered with Indigenous Memories to help establish Sacred Land Press, a publishing imprint dedicated to preserving and celebrating the histories of Indigenous people and People of Color in North Carolina.

Sacred Land Press publishes articles, books, and other works that center truth, resilience, and pride. BRC supported Sacred Land Press through strategic planning, creative direction, and platform development, helping bring this important initiative to life.

Fiscal Sponsorship & Shared Stewardship

Blue Ridge Collaborative operates under the fiscal sponsorship of Indigenous Memories, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the State of North Carolina. Through this relationship, BRC is able to pursue its mission of funding and producing creative projects that bring untold stories to light while aligning with Indigenous Memories’ longstanding commitment to preservation, education, and ethical storytelling.
